Why the HP EliteBook 840 G9 is a smart buy
The HP EliteBook 840 G9 came out in 2022 as HP's 14-inch business flagship. It moved to 12th Gen Intel processors with 10 cores, fast DDR5 memory and a taller 16:10 screen, which makes it noticeably quicker at multitasking than the older 840 G8. Bought pre-owned, it gives you a modern premium laptop for a fraction of its original price.
Performance – Core i5 or Core i7?
Most 840 G9 units use a 12th Gen Intel Core U-series processor with 10 cores: 2 performance cores for heavy tasks and 8 efficient cores for background work, with 12 threads in total.
Processor | Cores / threads | Cache | vPro |
|---|---|---|---|
Core i5-1235U | 10 / 12 | 12 MB | No |
Core i5-1245U | 10 / 12 | 12 MB | Yes |
Core i7-1255U | 10 / 12 | 12 MB | No |
Core i7-1265U | 10 / 12 | 12 MB | Yes |
The Core i5-1235U reaches up to 4.4 GHz and the Core i7-1255U up to 4.7 GHz (see Intel's Core i5-1235U specifications). The Core i5 is plenty for office work, study, freelancing and online meetings. Choose the Core i7 for heavy Excel files, light photo or video editing, or many apps at once. vPro only matters to company IT teams.
Graphics are Intel Iris Xe, built into the processor. Iris Xe runs at full speed only with two RAM sticks (dual-channel); ask us how the RAM is fitted in the laptop you're buying.
A taller 16:10 display
The 14-inch WUXGA screen is 1920×1200, so you see about 11% more of a document or web page than on a 1920×1080 laptop. It's IPS with an anti-glare finish. HP built three non-touch panels:
- 250 nits: the standard panel, fine for indoor use
- 400 nits, 100% sRGB: brighter, with more accurate colour and low blue light
- 1000 nits with HP Sure View Reflect: a built-in privacy screen that looks dark from the side
The panel can differ between laptops. If you need a specific one, message us before ordering.
Slim, light and built for work
The 840 G9 weighs from 1.36 kg and is 19.2 mm thin, so it fits easily into an office bag. The keyboard is spill-resistant with durable DuraKeys. Keyboard backlight and fingerprint reader were optional, so they differ between units; ask us if you need them.
Ports and connectivity
- 2× Thunderbolt 4 USB-C (40 Gbps) for charging, monitors and docks
- 2× USB-A (5 Gbps); one charges your phone while the laptop sleeps
- 1× HDMI 2.0, supports a 4K monitor at 60 Hz
- 3.5 mm headphone and mic jack
- Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2
Wi-Fi 6E can use the newer 6 GHz band on routers that support it. You can run two external monitors: one on HDMI and one on Thunderbolt 4. There is no Ethernet (LAN) port or SD card slot; a USB-C adapter adds them.
Room to upgrade
The 840 G9 has two DDR5 RAM slots (up to 64 GB) and an M.2 PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD slot that takes up to 2 TB. Need more memory or storage? We can upgrade it before delivery; ask us for the price.
Battery and charging
HP fitted either a 38 Wh or a 51 Wh battery. When new, HP rated the 51 Wh battery at up to 14 hours. On a used laptop, real backup depends on battery health, so we test it on every unit; ask us for the figure before you order. It charges from either USB-C port with a 65 W USB-C charger.
Security and video calls
The 840 G9 has a TPM 2.0 chip, HP Sure Start Gen7 BIOS protection and HP Tamper Lock, which can alert you if the case is opened. The 5MP webcam with HP Auto Frame keeps you centred on calls, and some units add an IR camera for Windows Hello face login. Bang & Olufsen speakers and dual microphones keep calls clear.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
Good for: office and corporate work, freelancing, programming, students and online classes, and anyone who wants a modern, light laptop with a big-feeling screen.
Not for: modern 3D games, 3D rendering or long 4K video edits. It has integrated graphics, not a dedicated graphics card. For those jobs, ask us about laptops with a dedicated GPU.

HP EliteBook 840 G9 – frequently asked questions
What is the HP EliteBook 840 G9 price in Bangladesh?
At DECIMART, a pre-owned HP EliteBook 840 G9 costs ৳46,000 with a Core i5, 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD. The Core i7 and other configurations are out of stock right now; message us to hear when they're back.
Is the HP EliteBook 840 G9 good for students and freelancers?
Yes. Its 10-core processor handles Office, browsers, online classes, Zoom and programming tools smoothly, and it weighs from 1.36 kg. It isn't made for modern 3D games or heavy video editing.
What is the difference between the 840 G8 and 840 G9?
The G9 has a 12th Gen processor with 10 cores instead of 4, DDR5 instead of DDR4 RAM, a taller 16:10 screen, a 5MP webcam instead of 720p, and Wi-Fi 6E. The G8 is cheaper and still fine for everyday office work.
Should I buy the Core i5 or Core i7 version?
Both have 10 cores and 12 threads. The Core i5 is enough for most people. The Core i7 is a little faster for heavy multitasking, large Excel files and light editing.
Does the HP EliteBook 840 G9 use DDR4 or DDR5 RAM?
DDR5-4800. It has two slots that take up to 64 GB in total, so you can't reuse DDR4 sticks from an older laptop.
Can I upgrade the RAM and SSD?
Yes. It has two DDR5 RAM slots (up to 64 GB) and one M.2 PCIe Gen 4 NVMe slot for SSDs up to 2 TB. We can upgrade it for you before delivery.
How long does the battery last?
HP fitted a 38 Wh or 51 Wh battery and rated the 51 Wh version at up to 14 hours when new. A used battery lasts less, depending on its health and how you use the laptop. We test every unit; ask us for its battery health.
Does it have a backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader?
Both were optional when new, so it depends on the unit. Ask us before ordering and we'll confirm.
Can I connect two monitors?
Yes. Use the HDMI 2.0 port (up to 4K at 60 Hz) for one, and a Thunderbolt 4 port with a USB-C to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter for the other.
Does it have a LAN (Ethernet) port?
No. A USB-C or USB-A to Ethernet adapter adds one.
What warranty do I get from DECIMART?
A 15-day warranty covers repair or replacement of faulty parts for major faults, including battery faults but not physical damage or display issues. You also get lifetime service: free labour, you pay only for parts.
