Why the HP ProBook 450 G8 is a smart buy
The HP ProBook 450 G8 is HP's 15.6-inch business laptop from the 11th Gen Intel era. It gives you a big Full HD screen, a full keyboard with a numeric keypad and every port an office needs, including a built-in Ethernet port. Bought pre-owned, it's a lot of laptop for the money.
Performance – Core i5 or Core i7?
The 450 G8 uses 11th Gen Intel Core processors with 4 cores and 8 threads.
Processor | Cores / threads | Max speed | Cache |
|---|---|---|---|
Core i5-1135G7 | 4 / 8 | 4.2 GHz | 8 MB |
Core i7-1165G7 | 4 / 8 | 4.7 GHz | 12 MB |
The Core i5 handles Office, dozens of browser tabs, Zoom and Google Meet, and coding tools without trouble (see Intel's Core i5-1135G7 specifications). Choose the Core i7 for heavy Excel files, light photo or video editing, or many apps at once.
Graphics are Intel Iris Xe, built into the processor, which needs two RAM sticks (dual-channel) to run at full speed; ask us how the RAM is fitted. Some units also have an NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics chip with 2 GB of its own memory, which helps with light photo and video editing.
A big 15.6-inch screen and a full keyboard
The 15.6-inch Full HD (1920×1080) IPS screen has an anti-glare finish and gives you more room than a 14-inch laptop. HP built three Full HD panels: a standard 250-nit panel, a brighter 400-nit panel with 100% sRGB colour, and a 1000-nit HP Sure View privacy panel. The panel can differ between laptops; message us if you need a specific one.
The keyboard is full-size and spill-resistant, with a numeric keypad, which makes number entry in Excel and accounting software much faster. Keyboard backlight and fingerprint reader were optional, so they differ between units; ask us if you need them.
Ports and connectivity
- 1× RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port for wired office internet
- 3× USB-A (5 Gbps); one charges your phone while the laptop sleeps
- 1× USB-C (10 Gbps) that can charge the laptop and drive a monitor
- 1× HDMI 1.4b for a monitor or projector
- microSD card reader
- 3.5 mm headphone and mic jack
- Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 5 (depending on the unit) and Bluetooth 5
You can run two external monitors: one on HDMI and one on USB-C. HDMI 1.4b is fine for Full HD monitors and projectors; for a 4K monitor, ask us which port and cable to use. There is no Thunderbolt.
Room to upgrade
The 450 G8 has two DDR4 RAM slots (up to 32 GB) and an M.2 NVMe SSD slot. DDR4 is affordable, so upgrades cost little. We can upgrade it before delivery; ask us for the price.
Size, weight and battery
As a 15.6-inch laptop it weighs from 1.74 kg and is 19.9 mm thin: fine to carry to the office, but heavier than a 14-inch model. It has a 45 Wh battery. On a used laptop, real backup depends on battery health, so we test it on every unit; ask us for the figure before you order.
Security
The ProBook 450 G8 has a TPM 2.0 chip and HP Sure Start, which protects the BIOS and repairs it if it is attacked. Some units add an IR camera for Windows Hello face login and a fingerprint reader.
Who it's for, and who it isn't
Good for: office and accounting work, Excel and data entry, students who want a bigger screen, and anyone who mostly works at a desk and wants every port built in.
Not for: modern 3D games, 3D rendering or long 4K video edits, or people who carry their laptop all day and want something very light. For those, ask us about other models.
